ILLUSIONS

"And what would you do"
the master said unto the multitude
"If God spoke directly to your face and said,
' I command that you be happy in the world,  as long as you live'. What would you do then?"

"And the Master said into the silence, 'in the path of our happiness shall we find the learning for which we have chosen this life time. So it is that I have learned this day, and chose to leave you now to walk your own path,as you please.'.... and he returned to the everyday world of men and machines.."

__the adventures of a Reluctant   Messaiah
                                                        _by Richard Bach

Is it possible to take your life in your control? Is everything you perceive real? Do miracles happen?

'What if somebody came along who could teach me how my world works and how to control it? ... What if a Siddhartha or Jesus came into our time, with power over the illusions of the world because he knew the reality behind them? And what if I could meet him in person, if he were flying a biplane, and landed in the same meadow with me?'

I  read this book some 20 years back. I read it again now with the same interest  for the second time too. It is a kind of sequel to his first book Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

It begins with an epilogue, a beautiful narration about  the arrival of Messiah. Here, in this first chapter, the numbered manuscript paras  with smudged pages, give a strange feeling of authenticity of an epic.  While your eyes run along the lines..your mind sees the magic unfolding. it is to let go of the clinging, experience the freedom of floating along the downstream.

Disillusioned with the masses who constantly seek his miracles than what he had to teach, Donald William Shimoda quits his job as Messiah and goes back to his mechanic job.

He says that there is nothing called a 'miracle', but only an illusion of magic of a magician, which anyone can repeat. The reality that we perceive is in fact, an illusion.

This has reminded me of preachings of  J.Krishna Murthy, our Indian philosopher, who came out of the religious shackles early in his career and went on lecturing on the freedom and choices.

There is again a 'Handbook of Messiah'  with interesting quotes. The book opens with the relevant quote for Richard to learn while the reality unfolds for him..by the master Donald William Shimoda. Both of them are in the business of flying people for few dollars. eventually, their association turns into Master and student relationship.

Ironically, the Messiah.. the protagonist dies in the hands of a random flier for his Antichrist statement
